Who Uses CDC Holding & Transit Care?

Our short-term holding is designed for the realities of international pet travel — not standard kennel hours or general boarding.

Dogs arriving at DFW from high-risk countries

Dogs arriving from CDC-designated high-risk rabies countries require a confirmed ACF reservation before travel. Our team collects from the cargo facility and manages the holding period within our CDC-registered facility while customs and veterinary processing is completed.

Customs clearance with handover

Dogs from CDC low-risk countries or high-risk countries with qualifying documentation use our Track 3 — Customs Clearance with Handover. We manage the clearance process and provide up to 6-hour holding after landing until you're ready to collect.

Dogs departing from DFW

We stage your dog at our facility ahead of a departure, coordinating cargo check-in timing with the airline directly. Pick-up from your location can be arranged using our private transport.

Transit, delays & disruptions

When flights are rescheduled or delayed, our on-call team responds quickly to collect pets from airline facilities and provide professional holding care until travel resumes. Call (817) 393-3315 for urgent situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about CDC holding and transit care at DFW Pet Lounge & Quarantine.

Yes — if your dog is arriving from a CDC-designated high-risk rabies country, a confirmed reservation at a CDC-registered ACF is a federal requirement before travel. Contact us as early as possible. See our reservation requirements page for full details.

Short-term holding can be hourly, half-day, or full-day depending on your situation. For dogs requiring a federally mandated 28-day quarantine under the Standard Import Track, that period is handled within our same CDC-registered facility. See the import service tracks for details on which applies to your dog.

Yes. We collect from DFW cargo facilities using private, climate-controlled vehicles operated by experienced animal handlers. STA-badged agents are available for secure airside access where required by the airline.

Current vaccinations are required for all animals. Dogs must be current on Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella; cats on Rabies and FVRCP. For international arrivals, additional CDC and USDA documentation applies depending on your import track. Please bring vaccination records at drop-off.

Bring your dog's food (pre-portioned if possible), any medications with dosage instructions, current vaccination records, and a comfort item from home if it helps them settle. We provide everything else — water, bedding, and attentive care throughout the stay.

Yes. We hold dogs and cats, with separate rooms maintained for small animals to keep the environment calm and low-stress. Contact us in advance for exotic or non-standard species so we can confirm arrangements.

CDC holding takes place in a federally registered Animal Care Facility that meets U.S. government compliance standards — not a standard kennel. Our facility is purpose-built for import compliance, with U.S. Customs surety-bonded areas, USDA-accredited veterinary oversight, and the infrastructure required to process international arrivals through DFW. Standard boarding kennels cannot provide this.
